Suva, Fiji – In a ceremony marked by diplomatic warmth, Ali bin Saad Al-Hajri, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar (non-resident) to Fiji, presented his credentials to His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, President of the Republic of Fiji, on Tuesday. The event, held at the Presidential Residence in Suva, included a traditional guard of honour for the Qatari envoy, underscoring the significance of the occasion.

Qatar and Fiji established formal diplomatic relations in 2010, and over the past 14 years, the two nations have expanded cooperation in trade, investment, and multilateral forums. As a rapidly growing Gulf economy and a key global energy supplier, Qatar has been strengthening ties with Pacific Island nations, including Fiji, which plays a pivotal role in regional diplomacy.

During the meeting, Ambassador Al-Hajri conveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of Qatar, to President Lalabalavu and reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to deepening bilateral engagement. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in areas such as economic development, climate resilience, and cultural exchange.

President Lalabalavu reciprocated with warm regards to the Amir and expressed his best wishes for Qatar’s continued prosperity. He emphasized his confidence that under Ambassador Al-Hajri’s leadership, relations between the two nations would grow stronger.

“Fiji values its partnership with Qatar and looks forward to exploring new avenues of collaboration, particularly in sustainable development and investment,” President Lalabalavu stated.

The credential presentation marks a new chapter in Qatar-Fiji relations, with both nations expressing optimism for expanded diplomatic and economic cooperation in the years ahead.
