Sydney, Australia – Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to protecting the rights of Australian Muslims to worship freely and without fear, amid growing concerns over racism and Islamophobia in the country. Speaking during a visit to the Australian Islamic House Masjid in Edmonson Park, Sydney, on Thursday, March 20, the Prime Minister emphasized the invaluable contributions of Muslim Australians to the nation’s social, cultural, and economic fabric.

Accompanied by Member for Werriwa Anne Stanley, Albanese condemned the recent threats against Lakemba Mosque and the United Muslims of Australia, calling them “disgraceful.” He stated, “There is no place for racism and Islamophobia in Australia. Every Australian has the right to worship openly and proudly.”

The Prime Minister also expressed his full support for law enforcement authorities investigating the incidents, adding, “I expect those responsible to face the full force of the law.”

The visit comes at a time when Australian Muslims are facing increasing challenges, including rising incidents of Islamophobia, discrimination, and hate crimes. Recent reports have highlighted a surge in anti-Muslim sentiment, exacerbated by global tensions and misinformation. Mosques and Islamic institutions have been targeted with threats, vandalism, and harassment, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity for many in the community.

Australian Muslims have also voiced concerns about systemic discrimination in employment, education, and public spaces. Many feel marginalized and underrepresented, despite their significant contributions to Australian society. The community has called for stronger government action to address these issues and promote social cohesion.

During his visit, Albanese reiterated the Labor Government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful society. “My government respects and values the contribution Muslim Australians have made to our country, and we always will,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s visit to the Australian Islamic House Masjid was seen as a powerful gesture of solidarity with the Muslim community. It underscored the government’s recognition of the challenges faced by Australian Muslims and its determination to stand against hate and division.

Albanese’s remarks also served as a reminder of the importance of unity in the face of adversity. He urged all Australians to reject racism and Islamophobia, emphasizing that diversity is one of the nation’s greatest strengths.

As the government continues to address these challenges, the Prime Minister’s visit has been welcomed as a positive step toward building a more inclusive and harmonious Australia. However, community leaders have stressed the need for sustained action and support to ensure that Australian Muslims can live, work, and worship without fear.
