Foreign Minister Marise Payne who is in London to attend 19th Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting and the 2 days Global Conference for Media Freedom late Tuesday visited Marlborough House & met with Secretary-General Patricia Scotland.

Both sides discussed the shared challenges and reforms agenda of the Commonwealth.

“Australia is committed to ensuring the Commonwealth remains a modern and effective global institution”, Minister Payne tweeted after the meeting.

“As a founding member state, Australia has a fundamental interest in ensuring the Commonwealth remains a modern and effective global institution”, she said in a statement before departing for London.

“A more coordinated, efficient and effective Commonwealth is important to strengthening our shared commitment to democracy, human rights, gender equality, sustainable development, good governance and the rule of law”, she concluded.
