Canberra, March 23: The High Commission for Pakistan in Canberra commemorated Pakistan Day with a flag hoisting ceremony to mark the historic adoption of the Pakistan Resolution on March 23, 1940. The day holds immense significance in Pakistan’s history, as it was on this day that the All-India Muslim League, under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, passed the Lahore Resolution, demanding a separate homeland for Muslims in British India. This resolution laid the foundation for the creation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947.

The ceremony at the High Commission was attended by a large number of Pakistani community members. High Commissioner H.E. Mr. Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri hoisted the national flag while the national anthem of Pakistan was played, evoking a sense of pride and patriotism among the attendees. The messages of the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were also read out, reflecting on the nation’s journey and its aspirations for the future.

In his address, High Commissioner Chaudhri emphasized the importance of March 23, paying tribute to the founding fathers of Pakistan for their visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to establishing an independent, democratic, and modern Muslim state. He lauded the Pakistani diaspora as a “greatest national asset,” acknowledging their remarkable achievements and the positive image they have cultivated for Pakistan in Australia. He also highlighted the significant contributions of overseas Pakistanis to the socio-economic development of their homeland.

The High Commissioner further outlined various initiatives undertaken by the High Commission to support and facilitate the Pakistani community in Australia, in line with the government’s policies. He expressed his gratitude to the community for their active participation in the celebrations and their continued efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between Pakistan and Australia.

Similar flag hoisting ceremonies and events were organized by Pakistani community members in other major cities across Australia, reflecting the unity and pride of Pakistanis living abroad. The celebrations underscored the enduring spirit of the Pakistan Resolution and the community’s commitment to upholding the values of freedom, democracy, and progress envisioned by the nation’s founders.

The event concluded with a sense of national pride and a renewed commitment to contributing to Pakistan’s growth and prosperity.
