India has appointed senior diplomat Manpreet Vohra as next High Commissioner to Australia, Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a brief statement on Monday.
Vohra, a 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, is presently Ambassador of India to Mexico.
He is expected to take up the assignment shortly, the statement said.
Manpreet Vohra has been Ambassador to Afghanistan and Peru in past and served as additional secretary at Ministry of External Affairs.
Australian High Commissioner to India Barry O’Farrell has welcomed the appointment of Manpreet Vohra as next High Commissioner to Australia.
“I am looking forward to working closely with you in advancing engagement under our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”, he tweeted.
