Disapproving Treasurer Josh Frydenberg remarks that Australia is dealing with “a different China” under President Xi Jinping, Chinese Foreign ministry has made it clear that China has never done anything that undermines Australia’s sovereignty and interests.
Josh Frydenberg is rejecting Chinese investment deals he would have approved in previous years.
“Our approach to foreign investment had changed to reflect the federal government’s stronger stand on the national interest, in the wake of China’s more assertive position on foreign policy”, he told The Age.
Commenting on Mr Frydenberg remarks, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin pointed out that China has never done anything that undermines Australia’s sovereignty and interests.
“We urge relevant people in Australia to discard Cold-War mentality and ideological bias, respect basic facts, view China and China’s development in an objective and rational light, and stop hyping up the so-called China threat theory or making irresponsible remarks out of selfish political calculations”, spokesperson concluded.
