One Nation senator quit the party just an hour being sworn in to the senate

1996

PAULINE Hanson’s new One Nation senator has already quit the party just an hour being sworn in to the senate.
Senator Hanson was conspicuously absent when senator Fraser Anning was sworn in to replace Malcolm Roberts today.
Instead crossbench Senators Cory Bernardi and David Leyonhjelm walked Mr Anning into the chamber while his fellow One Nation senators Brian Burston and Peter Georgiou looked on.
She has now released a statement saying Senator Anning has quit the party and will stand as an independent “until something better comes along”.
Mr Anning was then seemingly snubbed by his fellow One Nation senators who did not speak to their new colleague even though senior Liberals and other crossbench senators moved to congratulate him.
A spokeswoman for Senator Leyonhjelm said Senator Anning had invited both him and Senator Bernardi to vouch for him this morning.
